The approach

You are at the centre of the work

Lorna trained as a counsellor at Edinburgh College and Borders College and is well versed in all modalities — but the work is never led by a method. It is led by you. What you bring, and how far you take it, is always yours to decide.

Her practice is grounded in the core conditions set out by Carl Rogers: a relationship built on empathy, honesty and complete acceptance. Nothing you say has to be tidied up first.

01

Empathy

Working to understand your world as you experience it, rather than interpreting it from the outside.

02

Congruence

Being genuine and present with you. No clinical mask, no performance — simply honest human contact.

03

Unconditional positive regard

You are accepted exactly as you arrive, with nothing about you needing to be earned or explained away.

Experience

Areas Lorna works with

Alongside general counselling, Lorna has a large range of experience in neurodivergence — sessions shaped around sensory needs, pacing and safety rather than a fixed template.

  • Depression
  • Anxiety & overwhelm

Sessions

What to expect

The first conversation
A short, no-obligation chat so you can ask questions and get a feel for whether we're a good fit for one another.
Face to face in Loanhead
Sessions are held in person at the Loanhead office, or online if that suits you better. Each session lasts 50 minutes, with no agenda to keep to and no requirement to fill the silence.
£50 per session
Each session is £50, with concessions available — cost should never be a barrier to starting. We can talk through what's manageable for you at our first conversation.
As often as suits you
Many people find a weekly rhythm helpful; others prefer something more fluid. We review it together as things change.
Confidential
What you share stays between us, within the BACP ethical framework, and is discussed openly with you from the start.
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”

Carl Rogers

Reach out when you're ready

There is no pressure to book anything. If you'd like to ask a question or arrange an introductory chat, a short note is enough.
